Zdnet – Online Technology News

Posted on 07:07, March 25th, 2009 by Editor

The online technology news, software download site and reviews also holds a network of 45 blogs that include many very well known and famous ones like Adrian Kingsley’s “Hardware 2.0” and Mary Foley’s “All about Microsoft”. There is a list given and links are also given to all the 45 blogs on the tab of the homepage of ZdNet. Matthew Miller’s “The Mobile Gadgeteer”, has a mobile edition. There is also a mobile face end at the “m.zdnet.com” which gives links to the fresh new posts all across the 45 blogs.

When you log on to zdnet.com from a mobile, then you get redirected to the website m.zdnet.com. This occurs even when you use a full browser like the Nokia WebKit or the Opera. Of all the mobile browsers the only phone that escapes this redirection is the iPhone. There is no way you can tell ZdNet to help us update the full version on our mobile phones. The only problem is that parts of ZdNet.com are mobilized.  All that we need is just a link, like the pc.zdnet.com that avoids detection of the browser and helps us go straight to the ZdNet site.

The mobile versions of all the blogs are made on Alex King’s “WordPress Mobile Edition”.  Fascinatingly, it looks like ZDNet is using all the plug-in directly from the box without any modification. The biggest problem is with the ‘Word Press Mobile Edition” from vanilla, is that it does not cut or divide the long pages or even resize the images. The bloggers of ZDNet keep their posts to a sensible length and don’t use many images. But phones with ‘Open wave’ and browsers of Motorola see some “errors out of memory” if you continue using a full website mobile browser you will definitely not get the full version.
