Waste ReductionThe wastage of food all around the US is huge and is the 3rd major source of wastage after paper and yard waste. As per figures in 2008 about 12.7% constituents of the total municipal waste was from food waste out of which only 3% got recycled and properly disposed of and the rest were used as landfills or incinerators. Sodexo in order to reduce this huge amount of food waste has initiated a new campaign and wants people to join them and contribute their bit.

Methane is said to be very harmful and contributes to further depletion of the Ozone layer which results in increase in the temperatures. This highly contributes towards global warming and researchers suggest that if we can get rid of the 50% of the total food waste we could actually reduce its impact on environment by about 25%
