Canon – Focuses Mainly on Imaging

Canon is a Japan based website. The company was founded in the year 1937. It is a ‘Japanese Multinational Corporation’. The headquarters of Canon are located in Ota in Tokyo, Japan. Canon focuses mainly on imaging, which comprises of computer printers, cameras and photocopiers. The official website of the company is ‘www.canon.com’. Canon employs over 20,000 people as of the year 2008.

Canon products are available on the website. They are photographic equipment that are, SLR and Digital cameras, scanners, calculators, printers and binoculars, Document and Print solutions, IT, medical, broadcast and optical imaging equipment.

The first camera launched by canon was in the year 1934. It was a ‘35mm focal plane – shutter camera’. In 1940 Canon came out with ‘an indirect X – ray camera’. In 1947 the name of the company was changed from ‘Precision Optical Instruments Laboratory’ to ‘Canon Camera Co.’. In the year 1958 Canon introduced its first ‘field zoom lens’ which is used in the broadcasting of television. In 1959 canon launched the first of its kind camcorder with zoom lens called ‘Reflex Zoom 8’. In 1964 Canon introduced the first ’10 – key calculator’ of the world. In 1969 the name of the company was changed again to ‘Canon Inc.’

Canon then came out with many other cameras like, ‘The Canon F – 1’ which is a high end SLR camera, another first in the world product that is ‘camera embedded with a micro computer’ called the ‘AE – 1’, the first in the world ‘Ink Jet printer’, another introduction to the world by Canon was ‘EOS – 5’ which was the first ever ‘eye – controlled autofocus’. Then came in a series of the ‘IXUS’ that is ‘pocket sized cameras’, came the ‘digital video camcorders’. Canon even came out with the first ever in the world ‘portable digital X – Ray system’.
